Eurostrings 2006 (III)

Last day! Many good talks today. I just want to mention two of them. One by Thorn on SU(N) N=4 SYM when N=infinite. There is just one quark-antiquark bound state at weak coupling while at strong coupling there is an infinite number of them. Very nice.

Another interesting talk was given by Bachas. He showed how to apply string techniques to solve capillarity and wetting problems. He even found an UV/IR connection in the case where the surface cointaining the fluid has high curvature. So it seems a new field is born: applied string theory. If LHC provides no proof to string theory string theorists will not loose their job, they can just change to applied string theory!
